Photography & video glossary
Plain-language explanations to help you compare photography, videography and property-media services from JD Meyers Productions in Potsdam, NY.
These definitions explain the vocabulary. Your selected package and final written agreement define the scope, price and booking terms.
- Coverage hours
- The time reserved for photographing or filming your event. Wedding photography packages offer up to 4, 6 or 8 hours. Plan the start and finish around the moments you want covered. Additional time needs confirmation; use the current service pricing rather than an old hourly rate.
- Essential, Signature and Premiere
- Package names used to compare time and deliverables. The scope differs by service, so a wedding package and a portrait package with the same name are not interchangeable. Studio headshots currently have Essential and Signature options.
- Edited gallery
- A selected collection of finished photographs delivered through an online gallery. Editing includes the photographer’s finishing work; it does not mean every image captured during the session is delivered.
- High-resolution image
- A delivered image with enough detail for its intended use. Share print sizes, employer specifications and website requirements before booking so delivery can be planned for that purpose.
- RAW file
- An unprocessed camera file used in the editing workflow. It differs from the finished images supplied in an edited gallery. Check the published service terms for file-delivery policy.
- Sneak peeks
- A small preview of finished wedding photographs delivered before the complete gallery. The current wedding photography service includes 48-hour sneak peeks and a full edited gallery in 6–8 weeks.
- Second photographer
- An additional photographer who can cover a different viewpoint or simultaneous events. Availability and scope must be confirmed. It is an optional addition rather than an automatic part of every wedding package.
- Highlight film
- A cinematic edited film that brings together selected moments from the wedding day. It is different from a complete recording of the ceremony or speeches.
- Full ceremony, speeches and reception edits
- Separate edits covering those portions of a wedding in greater detail. The published Premiere wedding videography package includes these; compare the service details before assuming a highlight-film package includes them.
- Studio headshot
- A portrait made for a professional profile, company website or personal brand. Studio sessions use controlled lighting, a choice of background and guided posing. Tell JD where the photo will appear and whether you need a particular crop.
- Passport photo
- An application photograph with country- and application-specific requirements. This is a separate quoted service, not a standard headshot package. Confirm the application and delivery format first; acceptance is determined by the receiving authority.
- 3D virtual tour
- An interactive walkthrough of a property. It is separate from still listing photography and aerial media. The quote depends on the current scope, scanned square footage, platform availability and hosting requirements.
- Aerial photography and video
- Images or footage captured from a drone. The location, airspace, weather and safe operating conditions determine what can be flown. A requested flight is subject to confirmation.
- FAA Part 107
- The FAA’s framework for commercial small-drone operations in the United States. JD holds a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. Certification does not remove airspace restrictions or guarantee a flight on a particular date.
- Deposit
- A payment credited toward the booking total. The amount and reservation conditions depend on the service and agreement. Sending an inquiry alone does not reserve a date.
- File retention
- The period during which delivered files remain stored or available. Download your completed gallery and keep your own backups. Check the current service terms for the retention period that applies to your booking.
